Our Story

Vetri D Murano is an online art gallery specializing in mid-century Italian Murano Glass from ca. 1939 through late 1990s.
Much is still unknown about this important time period of Venetian glass making and for a beginning collector it can be a difficult task to distinguish between an authentic design and a modern "look a like" or reproduction. Mass produced items, some being even manufactured outside of Italy have flooded the art glass market in recent years. There is a distinguished difference in the quality of the craftsmanship, the shades of color and density of gold applications which is best observed in person. All photos published here are taken in natural light and without filters to best represent the object and they serve as a good reference point to start out at.
Mid-century Murano glass was mainly sold as souvenirs and many workshops did not always sign the glass but hallmark it with company export labels made from paper or foiled stickers. These labels were often removed by the owner or due to age they simply rubbed or fell off.
Products from the "Venini" company are an exception. Authentic objects will always be marked with an engraved or acid etched signature, a company label and they are sold with a certificate of authentication. Due to the exceptional high market value of Venini art glass, these historic designs sadly are copied and signature and stamps are being forged. It is highly recommended therefore to buy such an item from a reputable merchant and to inquire about provenance and documentation before investing a large sum of money in a highly sought after item.

All Murano glass objects listed here at Vetri D Murano are guaranteed to be authentic designs. Most objects still feature an original manufacturing label or signature or they are documented in Murano Glass publications. The condition of the glass is original, without damage or restoration unless otherwise stated.
Reference material on the design and Murano Glass manufacturing company is included in the purchase to document the object and protect its collectible value.

The glass objects shown in the "archive" photo gallery reflect a selection of mid-century Italian Murano Glass objects which were connected with collectors and merchants all over the world throughout the last 20 years.

Inquiries concerning identification of midcentury Italian Murano Glass objects are always welcome and information will be provided based on available data in the Vetri D Murano reference library.
